Unit 18 Advertising Evaluation
Compared with original intention
How does your actual advert compare to your original ideas before you started your advert?- We all had separate ideas planed on our own accord to see what was suitable in order to compromise for an adequate video, this lead to us having to make and pick out what was practical and eligible for filming.
- When it came down to finding what we liked to do we decided to see through a voting system on who liked what in what context, boiling it all down to us making and producing the video content we have displayed in our video.
- My original ideas were in line to the tracking and tracing shots that were demonstrated in the video. It also included my idea of having the camera of having the camera turn from the background to the cast; this idea was included somewhat however it was changed from the camera turning from the cast to the background. There was one final idea I had in witch a number of the cast would showboat around some scenes however this was cut due to it not really making sense.
Technical qualities
What did you do and use to make your advert strong, e.g. shots, lighting, music, text,- We first started on the song because we understood that music is the most important part of an advert for its whole emotive value, as we all know that some of the things that can really catch a persons attention with the use of music.
- When we began working on the shots we wanted to make sure that the face of a person and the product as to show the viewers that the products suited them and matched their overall appearance.
- We only needed to use the text for the end of the video with the written words of “next” stretched with vocal advertisement announcement.
- We used my voice (Ian) as the vocal advertisement announcement in order to tell the viewer what products were on sale for purchase.
Aesthetic qualities
What did you do and use to create the overall look in your advert?- We had primarily focused on a lot of tracking and tracing shots in order to get the overall feel that is conveyed. This method was used quite often in the video for use of effect.
Persuasive qualities
What was your target audience?- Our target audience, where viewers that are willing to watch and see what products are on offer at their local next store?
Did your advert appeal to your
target audience? Did your target audience ‘get the message’?
- Yes, the overall audience managed to get the message that was conveyed.
Production Process
Did the way you put your advert together, i.e. style your advert, and create the right overall look?- Yes, we where able to show precisely what we wanted the video to look and feel like to ourselves and to our viewing audience. The style of the advert being upbeat was well made with the finished advert; this helped us create the overall look that where needed for our finished.
Post- Production
Did the way you edit your advert create the right overall look?- Yes.
Self-evaluation
What were your strengths and weaknesses of your advert?
Strengths:
- The editing overall was well polished and refined.
- The sequencing of the video was well made with the syncing of the sound and videos.
- The video has a clear message as to what it is trying to promote and sell. The cast physical acting was a fantastic befit added with their own enjoyment.
- The choice of music worked surprisingly well with the overall video.
Weaknesses:
- Our video lacks a bit of gender diversity with the cast as the only people we were able to get where few and far between.
- The movement of the camera was a bit shaky as due to our camera operator being dwarfed by the rest of the cast.
- There is a sequence witch stretches out for too long witch we should of really shortened.
Comments from others
Questionnaire information - What did your focus group think of your advert?- For the fist question answered, that everybody seemingly answered positively. With suitable replies such as how it was “upbeat” and “well represented”.
- With the second question answered, that everyone’s answers were well put for they understood that the advert was about selling clothes.
- The third question answers; everyone understood that the purpose was to sell clothes.
- The fourth question answered differently; as everyone primarily said the focus was more mined towards men then equality with girls and boys.
- The fifth question answer; was fairly neutral considering barley anyone noticed the chance of the logo.
- The sixth question answered; people answered with varied responses but primarily said for more gender equality.
- The seventh question answered; that all answered enthusiastically with positive feedback.
- The eighth and final question answered; that we made our advert rather too long, with some clips being disjointed and others being shaky and locked.
· What changes would you make
to your advert?
- If we where change anything in the advert we would change the gender ratio, as we had a supreme lack of female companions in our advert.
- Another thing we would change is the long length of one sequence because its length was completely unnecessary for it to be as long as it was.
- We would improve our camera stability, as the camera was a bit shaky compared to allot of other videos we have done before.
- The last thing we would change is how jumpy the video was when some cuts were made especially when the wardrobe scene came about.
